OUR MISSION

The Liminal Theatre Collective is a New York City-based ensemble of multidisciplinary artists dedicated to developing and producing new and reimagined works by artists of color that explore the spaces between tradition and change, while also fostering the next generation of diverse theatre artists.

We believe theatre should be a shared journey between artists and audiences. In occupying the space in between, we create experiences that break from tradition—making space for new voices, prioritizing process, challenging expectations, building community, mining the nuances of palpable human moments, and inviting audiences to be part of the story.

Join us in reimagining the stage as a catalyst for collective transformation, connection, and access for all.

The in-between. It describes states, times, and spaces that exist at a point of change—a metaphorical threshold.

Without community, there is no liberation...but community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretense that these differences do not exist.

OUR C.O.R.E. VALUES

  • CULTIVATE

    • Nurture the next generation of diverse theatre artists through initiatives that support their development at every stage.

  • OUTREACH

    • Amplify marginalized voices and grow our artistic community through impactful works, neighborhood engagement, collaborative creative spaces, and education.

  • RECLAIM

    • Reassert the humanity of artistic voices by fostering experimentation, collaboration, and the creation of new narratives that center people of color, challenging normalized misrepresentations, and igniting meaningful dialogue.

  • ENGAGE

    • Transform audiences from passive viewers to active cohabitants in a shared experience.

HOW WE DIFFER:

  • Our Liminal Philosophy: We prioritize the process of becoming, confronting the unsaid, allowing for fluid, evolving storytelling.

  • Our Comprehensive Ecosystem: Beyond productions, we offer:

    • The Ivy Initiative: Our flagship education program that provides fully subsidized conservatory-level training, advocacy, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities to dynamic rising high school juniors and seniors from lower-income households in NYC.

    • The Liminal Clubhouse: In-school residencies for 5th to 8th graders focusing on essential storytelling skills and community building.

    • Liminal Labs and The First Draft Series: Regular developmental readings and workshops that support emerging creators of color in refining and showcasing their work.

    • The Portal Sessions: Semi-monthly community gatherings that facilitate meaningful connections, creative dialogue, and collective growth within our artistic community.

    • Ongoing workshops and masterclasses with professional artists.

    • Community outreach programs.

    • Internships and Fellowships for emerging artists of color.

  • These elements converge to create a unique theatrical experience where boundaries blur, stories evolve, and communities transform.

At The Liminal Theatre Collective, we're not just producing shows; we're cultivating a dynamic space where artists, audiences, initiatives, and stories intersect, pushing the boundaries of what theatre can be and do in our society.
